As an Indian from New York, I've had many experiences at Indian restaurants throughout my life and oh my god, was this one of my favorite ones EVER!
My dad has been to Swagatam before on a previous trip to Barcelona and insisted we check out this little location on our family trip together. My brother and mother were both hesitant - why would we have Indian food in Spain when we can have it anytime at home? But boy, were we all SO glad we went!
The location is small and easy to miss, but sooooo not something anyone should want to. The owner is extremely friendly and made our experience very enjoyable and funny, and the food was absolutely amazing. I will definitely return on any future trips to Barcelona and for sure recommend it to all family and fellow yelpers.
Hit the spot. Super yummy Indian food with a set menu or a la carte ordering. Friendly staff catered to folks in Catalan, Spanish, English, and perhaps a few other languages too.
Word for the wise: medium is hot and medium plus is very hot! I love hot food and was sweating from the top of my head when I ordered medium plus! This is enjoyable for me but if it's not your thing go with non spicy or mild.
Hands down the best Indian I've had in my life (throughout Europe and D.C.).
Service was prompt. Everything was seriously delicious. Also the place was very clean!
We got the menus .. 12.95 euros. Amongst the two of us we shared pakoras, shek kebab (served on a hot sizzling plate), papadums, chicken curry, lentil dhal tadka, naan and rice. It included desserts which were gulab (a sort of fried "dumpling" of sweet condensed milk, cardamom and other spices) and mango lassi.
Everything was so flavorful, perfectly spiced and balanced. We also got a bottle of the house wine which was a Catalan wine for just 8.95. The wine was pretty good for a cheap house wine!
We came in pretty late on a Thursday night around 11pm. Service was fantastic. The menu is very clear and easy to read with Spanish and Catalan and English all in the same menu.
To be honest there's not much of an atmosphere but I feel like that added to the whole experience. The food simply spoke for itself.
Update: I've been here many times now. It's consistently delicious. Others agree:)
Very good food. Nice service. Owner was really nice. Highly recommended for someone looking for North Indian food in Barcelona.
I am an Indian living in Los Angeles, and have eaten Indian food everywhere, LA, London, New Delhi. The food was surprisingly authentic. We had asked for it to be spicy, and the food was what we would expect in India. My only caution and the only reason for giving this restaurant a 4 stars was the goat meat, which outside of India, I have had a hard time getting to be the same quality and as tender as I get in New Delhi or other parts of India.
The host is refreshingly Indian and I would suggest that you stick with the chicken or lamb and you will get a truly engaging experience of Indian food cooked well, with the spices being properly cooked and nicely marinated in the meat and vegetables.
We ordered Goat Karahi, Aloo Gobhi (Cauliflower and Potatoes) and Tandoori Roti (Whole Wheat Tortillas) all of which was fantastic.
This restaurant will get five stars from me, any day. Mohan Lal, the owner and his partner were very pleasant and extremely welcoming, I am an I Dian and know Indian food. In my 5 days stay I came here twice. Their Onion Bhaji was out of the world. First time I had kadai chicken and it was perfect. In my second visit I went with my wife and she agreed with me that the food was excellent. They did their best to make us comfortable and the food was just excellent.
I have been here twice in the last couple of weeks. Really delicious food, great owner and great service. The mutton korma is my favorite and I'm looking forward to trying other dishes as well.
The best Indian food I've had in Barcelona! I ordered the chicken tikka masala with medium spice and it was perfect. The right amount of curry and spice. Their chicken tikka masala has almost a sweet flavour to it which I thought was really nice. I ordered it with the garlic naan which is also a favourite. I ordered a second chicken tikka masala to take home so I could eat it again the next day! The service is really friendly too! They speak Hindi, English and Spanish. If you go on a Friday or Saturday night at prime time you might need a reservation though as this place is busy on weekends.
Excellent authentic Indian food in a very warm welcoming restaurant.
The owner and staff were friendly and hospitable.
Food was freshly prepared with genuine freshly made spices . Highly recommend it
Authentic Indian food served with a smile. The owners are very friendly. Good vegetarian options as well. Ask for the off menu aloo paratha if it's not too busy (which it usually is). Enjoy!
Walked in skeptical bc of previous yelp reviews, however I was very impressed. The two co-owners are friendly and have great service.
Ordered the paneer tikka tandoor (I'm a vegetarian) and the malai kofta with garlic naan and rice. That was enough to stuff my starving husband and i! They gave this amazing mint chutney for spicy eaters (ie my husband) that was probably the best he has ever had! Oh they also give one papadum for free in the beginning
As an American who was missing her mothers homemade food, this place hit the spot!
They even gave us a mini mango lassi for free since we didn't order any dessert and it was so good my husband left me barely a sip:/
This hole in the wall restaurant is an excellent choice for an authentic North Indian food. The Chef/Owner welcomed us with a big smile and made us feel comfortable. We ordered typical North Indian items including chicken tikka masala, paneer masala, dal makhani, rice pulao, and naan bread. As we ate the food, it reminded us of a typical Delhi restaurant (think of Pandora road restaurants in Delhi). We really enjoyed the food and conversation with the Chef/Owner.
A really great local Indian Place! The food is good. It's usually super busy on Friday-Sundays, because it's really popular.
The staff is incredibly nice and welcoming. My only real complaint to this restaurant, is that the Chicken Tikki Masala is really tomatoey. Everything else that I've been served there has been really good.
I'm not sure that it is the best it could be in terms of food, but it's quite good, and deserving of 4 stars wholly.
This place has good, classic Indian food at fair prices. The portions are big and the staff is very friendly. I went twice during my stay. The menu special is a good deal and yummy!
Best Indian food we've had- and our reference is the Bay Area in CA. Not only was the food excellent, but after weeks of traveling throughout Spain, I have to say these guys provided the most fun, hospitable customer service experience. Cheers to them - we're hoping we can go on more time before we leave!
The food was wonderful. The service pretty good. I would highly recommend coming here if you like authentic Indian food.
My wife and I were starving after a long hike. The food hit the spot! Absolutely delicious!

Aquí solo puedes venir a disfrutar!!
Sehr freundlicher, lustiger, singender Inhaber...
