The great thing about this two story downtown venue is the diversity and variety of performers, and the atmosphere of the downstairs stage (which is a classic touring venue but has the welcoming feel of an intimate house party). The downstairs and upstairs patio areas and the upstairs bar allow for several different feels to a given night. The history of the Bushnell family in Gainesville's recognized music scene is unparalleled, and the artists are fairly treated. From one day to the next: there are art shows, open mics, hardcore bands, rock, neo-punk, performance art, folk, intimate acoustic, hip-hop, EDM, noise bands and noise performers, improv, and comedy. Available at the bar are local craft beers, beer and wine (and free candy!) with fair prices. Emphasizing locals and original music, hardback is one of the classic great downtown music venues with a patron experience unlike any other. Highly recommended.
It's always fun at the Hardback. From a relaxed upstory bar featuring an intimate stage for small bands and performances to the wonderful, lively larger stage downstairs and the two floors of comfortable outdoor seating, the Hardback is great for a beer or a glass of wine. Nothing to get you sicker though since they are not a hard liquor establishment. :)
