We enjoyed our meal and the friendly service at Gago6. Arrived here after hopping around for tapas earlier in the evening and ready to chow down on some paella. We were determined to find good paella on our trip after being let down by a place we stopped in Madrid.
Gago6 hit the spot as the seafood paella was very fresh tasting and they even provided us with hot sauce as well as other seasonings to add some extra kick! As a spice lover, the subdued spices in Spanish cuisine had me missing hot sauce so I appreciated the accommodation. The socarrat on the paella was perfect and we appreciated the crispness of the rice. We also had a traditional tapa consisting of bread with tomato and cod, which was quite good.
The sangria was definitely not my favorite of the trip and it did seem like a fairly touristy spot, but it was a nice relaxing meal with good service.
So we stumbled into this restaurant after we had finished touring the Alcazar and the cathedral. We stayed because they had a good selection of tapas, and it was about 2688436734 degrees outside and they had a nice air conditioned room.
Our experience here was pretty great. The waiters were nice and attentive and really explained to us what each menu item was and how it was prepared. The atmosphere was really nice, with good music playing, and the doors were open letting in fresh air.
Get the Sangria!! It's one of the best sangrias I've ever had! Also, if you do get the gambas al ajillo, the oil remaining around the shrimp is perfect for dipping your bread in because it's so full of flavor. Another thing that was pretty great was the chocolate mousse.
This review might be biased because it was about 95 degrees outside...HOT! Yes, this restaurant is on a touristy street and I don't think any locals actually eat here...but my wife and I needed sustenance, some cold white wine, and air conditioning! The staff was very friendly.
Inside is a modern and earthy ambiance complete with living walls(plants on the walls). We sat in the back for maximum air conditioning. Despite the touristy area, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Wines could be had for €2 a glass, €3 gazpacho was cold and refreshing, and my delicious €12.50 seafood paella was fantastic(probably would've cost $20+ in America!). We also got some jamon and queso for about €3-4 each. Great meal!
